Marsabit is a very dry area with lots of dust. Our team focused on creating a thin product that can effectively keep out large particles and also be comfortable at the same time. Because toes have the greatest risk of infection, we made sure our shoes were closed-toed. In our first few sketches, we considered using cardboard and cloth to not make sound when using the shoe.  As we received more information about the materials we could use (cloth, braided cloth, sand, cardboard, corn husks, leaves, etc.), we refined our design to be durable and practical.
